What goes into creating a pet-trait?
I believe the key to a good pet portrait lies in capturing the soul of the subject. Every tilt of the head, wag of a tail or angle of a gaze tells you something. I make it a point to ask pet parents to describe their babies and share photos or videos to understand their personality.
Are pet-traits created live or from photographs?
It is practically impossible to get animals to stay still for long periods. I have managed to sketch my dog live only when he’s sleeping. I create portraits by referring to multiple photographs. Good hi-resolution photographs are preferred as I like to add a lot of detail.
In what media are the portraits painted?
Most of my work is created digitally using a professional tablet and stylus. The only difference between digital painting and traditional painting is that you are holding a stylus instead of a brush.
A digital painting is still completely hand-drawn. I print on high quality imported canvas that can be delivered with or without framing.
I also paint in watercolour and pencil colours, on paper, on special request.
What defines the price of a pet-trait?
The price depends on the size and complexity of the painting. Complexity refers to the number of subjects and background detailing. Sizes start from 8"x11" and can be as large as a few feet, suitable to cover a wall.
How much time does it take to create a pet-trait?
It takes anywhere between 10 to 15 days (for sizes up to 2x3 feet) from the time the order is placed. Orders are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Where do you deliver?
Portraits can be delivered anywhere, with additional shipping charges as applicable.
